Uzbekistan Climbs in FIFA Rankings

The Uzbekistan national football team is celebrating its highest FIFA ranking in almost a decade. According to the latest FIFA world rankings for March 2025, the Uzbekistan team has climbed one spot to 57th place.

This achievement marks the team’s best position since 2016 when they reached 48th place under the leadership of Samvel Babayan. Currently coached by Timur Kapadze, who took over in January this year, the team secured a 1–0 win over Kyrgyzstan and played to a 2–2 draw against Iran in the March matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In the November 2024 qualifiers, Uzbekistan suffered a 2–3 defeat against Qatar but bounced back with a 1–0 victory over North Korea, ending the year ranked 58th.

At present, Argentina sits at the top of the FIFA world rankings, with Spain surpassing France to claim second place. The top ten also includes England, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.

Within the Asian region, Uzbekistan now ranks sixth. Japan leads the continent at 15th globally, followed by Iran (18), South Korea (23), Australia (26), and Qatar (55). Other notable Asian teams in the rankings include Saudi Arabia (58), Iraq (59), Jordan (62), and the UAE (65).

It is worth noting that Uzbekistan’s highest-ever FIFA ranking was 45th, achieved during the 2006–2007 period. The team will be hoping to continue their upward trajectory in the rankings as they aim for success in future competitions.
