Uzbekistan Launches Dialogue on Labor Migration and Migrant Rights with Russia
A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Prosecutor General Shohruh Aminov, has embarked on a significant mission to Russia to participate in the inaugural meeting of the interagency working group focused on labor migration and the protection of migrant rights. The meeting is set to commence on April 29.
Hayot Shamsutdinov, spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office, confirmed the delegation’s departure. The group comprises officials from key government sectors, including the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Security Service, the Migration Agency, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, and Health.
This visit comes on the heels of a parliamentary inquiry submitted by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. On April 15, lawmakers formally requested Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov to provide a comprehensive update on the measures being implemented to defend the legal rights and interests of Uzbek citizens living abroad.
The inquiry underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its nationals overseas, as the Foreign Minister has been tasked with detailing ongoing initiatives aimed at safeguarding the rights of Uzbek migrants.
As discussions at this meeting unfold, they are expected to shape a pivotal framework for enhancing legal protections for Uzbek workers abroad, addressing their challenges, and fostering cooperative measures between Uzbekistan and Russia in the realm of labor migration.
