Uzbekistan Grants Women Permission to Drive Large Buses
Women in Uzbekistan will now be able to drive cargo vehicles and buses with more than 14 passengers, as the regulation that prohibited them from doing so has been annulled by the Ministry of Transport.
This new decision allows women to participate in labor activities that were previously restricted to them. This includes driving cargo vehicles with a carrying capacity of over 2.5 tons and buses with a carrying capacity of more than 14 passengers. The Ministry of Transport stated that this measure will create a legal basis for women to be involved in these areas of the transportation sector.
The ministry also highlighted that this new measure will promote gender equality in the transportation sector and encourage more women to operate large-capacity buses, including electric buses. Additionally, they pointed out that modern vehicles’ technical specifications allow women to engage in comfortable and health-safe labor activities in this field.
This decision marks a significant step towards gender equality and inclusion in the workforce in Uzbekistan. By allowing women to participate in roles that were previously off-limits to them, the country is taking a positive step towards empowering women and promoting equal opportunities in the transportation sector.
