
Uzbekistan Implements Stringent Measures to Regulate Road Safety

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Criticizes Traffic Safety Situation in Uzbekistan
During a recent videoconference meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed concerns about the poor state of traffic safety on the roads in Uzbekistan. The President highlighted the increasing number of deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents and criticized the lack of action and indifference from the responsible officials.
Addressing the Minister of Transport, President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of implementing measures to improve traffic safety, such as installing traffic lights and fixing intersections. He pointed out that as the Minister of Transport, it is the responsibility of the official to ensure the implementation of these decisions. The President expressed dismay over the high number of fatalities, with approximately 4,200 people losing their lives due to accidents.
The President also expressed disappointment in the deputies for their indifference towards the inadequate performance of the officials. He questioned why the President had to take the initiative to address this issue while the deputies remained silent. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that social media platforms were filled with posts about the alarming number of deaths, which reflected the concerns of the people.
To illustrate the potential for improvement, the President referred to cities like Beijing and Moscow, where there are minimal traffic jams due to effective traffic management systems in place.
In response to the situation, the President issued directives to the Minister of Transport and other officials to take decisive actions towards developing public transport, installing traffic lights, marking road lanes, preventing traffic congestion, and regulating roads. The goal is to achieve significant improvements in traffic safety by the year 2024.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s criticism highlights a pressing issue in Uzbekistan and emphasizes the need for immediate action to reduce the number of accidents and improve traffic safety on the country’s roads.
