Uzbekistan Initiates Criminal Case Against Auto Leasing Officials
Uzbekistan Reports 2,000 Complaints Regarding Car Purchase Scams
In recent years, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights in Uzbekistan has received approximately 2,000 complaints regarding cases where consumers made advance payments for cars but did not receive the vehicles within the promised timeframe, or did not get their money refunded.
The majority of these complaints were filed against “UMID AUTO COMPANIES” LLC, “ORIENT AUTO-LEASING” LLC, “IMKON AUTO” LLC, “MEGA AUTO LEASING” LLC, “AVTO 60-OY” LLC, “AVTOHAMKOR 0 FOIZ” LLC, and other similar enterprises.
According to the committee, these companies lure consumers with the promise of delivering a new car within a short period, only to use the funds from new consumers to cover their existing obligations, ultimately delaying or withholding the return of money for more than a year.
In response to these fraudulent activities, law enforcement agencies have initiated criminal cases against several of these companies, including “Umid auto leasing”, “Umid leasing Tashkent”, “Umid auto”, “Umid auto Tashkent”, “Mega Avto Lizing-Hamkor”, “Mega Avto Lizing”, “Samo Rimmax Avto”, “Rimmax Auto Leasing”, “Ishonch Auto Leasing”, “Asr Auto Leasing”, and “Baraka Avto Baraka Business” LLCs.
Despite these legal actions, the committee has expressed concern that officials of these enterprises continue to engage in deceptive practices, and have warned citizens to thoroughly review contracts with auto leasing companies, familiarize themselves with payment requirements, and verify the reliability of the company before making any payments.
The committee emphasized the importance of not falling for misleading promises and urged consumers to remain cautious when dealing with auto leasing companies in order to avoid becoming victims of fraud.
