Uzbekistan Installs First Large Wind Turbine

China’s Goldwind has installed the first large turbine for a 500 MW wind farm in the Tamdi district of the Navoi region as part of a project being executed by Emirati group, Masdar. The turbine boats a capacity of 4.7 MW, stands at 97 meters, and has blade length of 77 meters. The station is slated to the largest wind farm in Central Asia with 111 more turbines to follow. The initial turbines of the station will go online by year-end, producing 1.8 billion kWh of electricity p.a., a move that will save 540 million cubic meters of natural gas yearly and reduce harmful emissions by 720,000 tonnes.
