Uzbekistan Invalidates “Old” Driver’s Licenses from January 1
Uzbekistan to Complete Replacement of Old-Style Driver’s Licenses by December 31, 2023
The Traffic Safety Department in Uzbekistan has announced that the last stage of replacing old-style driver’s licenses with new ones will come to an end on December 31, 2023. After this date, old-style driver’s licenses will be considered invalid, and drivers who fail to renew their license will face a fine of 330,000 soums as per Article 13 of the Administrative Responsibility Code for driving vehicles without the required documents stipulated in the traffic rules.
To replace the license, citizens can visit the traffic safety departments across the country and the public service centers of the Ministry of Justice. They need to bring along their old driver’s license, car technical passport, and ID card.
Alternatively, an application for replacing a driver’s license can be submitted online at the Single Portal (my.gov.uz). The process is fully automated, and the ready-made licenses can be obtained from the selected state service center or by mail within two working days for an additional fee of 25,000 soums.
New driver’s licenses and technical passports were introduced in Uzbekistan in October 2017, with the initial deadline for the exchange of certificates and technical passports set for December 31, 2020. However, the deadline was extended multiple times – first for one year in the spring of 2020, then until the end of 2022 in November 2021, and again until the end of 2023 in April 2022.
As of the beginning of 2023, more than 2 million driver’s licenses and over 557 thousand technical passports had not been replaced with new ones. According to the Traffic Safety Department, as of December 16, 13,631 driver’s licenses have yet to be replaced with new ones.
Therefore, it is imperative for all drivers in Uzbekistan to ensure that their old-style driver’s licenses are replaced with the new ones before the upcoming deadline to avoid any penalties or legal consequences.
