Uzbekistan Warns Citizens Against Joining Foreign Military Services
The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan has issued a strong warning to its citizens, urging them to resist any attempts to recruit them for foreign military services. The consulate specifically emphasized that participation in foreign armed conflicts will lead to criminal prosecution.
In an official statement, the Consulate General reminded Uzbek citizens that their foreign citizenship will not be recognized under national law unless a presidential decree is issued to that effect. This means that any Uzbek citizen involved in military actions abroad will face consequences under Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code.
The consulate referenced Article 154 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which deems “mercenary activities” as illegal. This encompasses any form of participation in foreign armed conflicts or military operations. Violating this law can result in prison sentences of up to 10 years.
The statement emphasized that all individuals found guilty of engaging in these illegal activities will be prosecuted without exception, with no leniency granted to those who partake in such actions.
Furthermore, the Consulate advised citizens to exercise caution and avoid falling prey to calls urging them to join military actions abroad.
It is crucial for Uzbek citizens to heed this warning and refrain from getting involved in foreign military services to avoid facing severe legal consequences.
