Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus to become BRICS partners in 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus will be granted BRICS partner status, alongside Bolivia, Indonesia, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, and Uganda. This decision was confirmed by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, who stated that these nations have expressed their readiness to join the BRICS partnership.

During the recent summit in Kazakhstan, a list of BRICS partner countries was formed, including a total of 13 states. Invitations have already been sent out and several countries, namely Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, have confirmed their willingness to become BRICS partners.

Yuri Ushakov explained that these countries will officially gain the status of BRICS partner states as of January 1, 2025. He also mentioned that there are four more countries to whom invitations have been extended and responses are awaited.

Representatives from these newly appointed BRICS partners will be invited to participate in special meetings during BRICS summits and foreign minister meetings. Additionally, they will be involved in discussions on security issues, parliamentary forums, and other related events.

BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, was established in 2006 by these countries, with South Africa joining later. Recently, on January 2, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia were also welcomed into the group. The expansion of BRICS to include new partner countries reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering collaboration and partnership among nations across the world.
