Uzbekistan Elected as Deputy Member to ILO Administrative Council for the First Time
Yesterday, at the headquarters of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva, during the 112th conference of the International Labor Conference, elections were held for members of the organization’s Administrative Council and their deputies for the term of 2024-2027.
Uzbekistan made history by being elected as a deputy member to the ILO Administrative Council for the first time, receiving the highest number of votes with 194, surpassing the required minimum of 105 votes. This election marks a significant milestone for Uzbekistan as they join this key body of the ILO.
The voting results demonstrate the recognition and appreciation from ILO member states towards the determination and political will of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. His efforts in eradicating child and forced labor, ratifying important ILO conventions promoting decent work principles, and shifting towards a dialogue-based approach to problem-solving have been highly commended.
The ILO’s Governing Body serves as the executive entity of the organization, managing its operations between International Labor Conference sessions and overseeing the implementation of its decisions. The Administrative Council holds three sessions annually in March, June, and November, and comprises of 56 members and 66 deputies, elected for a three-year term.
Uzbekistan’s election as a member of the ILO Administrative Council signifies a new chapter in the country’s commitment to upholding labor rights and promoting decent work practices. This achievement reflects Uzbekistan’s dedication to addressing labor issues and engaging in international cooperation within the ILO framework.
