Uzbekistan Leads Central Asia in Open Data Transparency, Jumps 18 Spots Worldwide

Uzbekistan Surges to 12th Place in Open Data Inventory Ranking for 2024
Uzbekistan has made remarkable progress in the realm of open data, climbing to 12th place in the international Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking for 2024. With a score of 83 points among 198 countries, Uzbekistan has solidified its position as the leader in open data transparency within Central Asia.
The Open Data Inventory (ODIN) serves as a crucial platform for promoting open data policies. It identifies gaps in official statistics, enhances communication between national statistical agencies and data users, and evaluates overall transparency in data handling. This year’s ranking reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to improving its open data practices and increasing accessibility for its citizens.
A notable growth metric is Uzbekistan’s ascent from the 30th position it held at the end of 2023 when it achieved a score of 70 points among 195 countries. This marks an impressive leap of 18 places in just one year, highlighting the nation’s dedication to fostering a more transparent data environment.
Central to this achievement is the launch of the integrated information system portal "Statistics" (SIAT) by the National Statistics Committee. This innovative platform aims to enhance both accessibility and transparency of statistical data. Currently, SIAT provides users with access to over 2,900 official statistical indicators in three languages, all downloadable for free in five different formats. The accompanying metadata ensures that users can easily navigate and utilize the data.
Experts from Open Data Watch have positively assessed the capabilities of the SIAT system, acknowledging its significant contribution to improving Uzbekistan’s performance in the Open Data Inventory ranking. This acknowledgment underscores the importance of investing in technology that promotes data transparency and public engagement.
Uzbekistan’s advancements in open data mark a significant step forward in the region, setting a standard for other nations in Central Asia and beyond. As the country continues to improve its data practices, it not only enhances its global standing but also empowers its citizens through accessible information.
