Uzbekistan Offering BYD Seagull at $4,300 Markup from Chinese Price
BYD Seagull Flying: Price Discrepancy Between Private Entrepreneurs and Official Dealer in Uzbekistan
BYD Seagull Flying, a popular electric car model, is creating quite a buzz in Uzbekistan. While private entrepreneurs are offering this model for as low as $14,300, the official dealer is selling it for $16,400. Interestingly, BYD Uzbekistan has the advantage of importing cars without paying customs duty and disposal fee for at least 2 years, giving them a competitive edge in the market. In China, the starting price of this model is $12,100.
Uzavtosanoat recently announced that BYD Uzbekistan Factory has struck a deal with Chinese partners for the production of new models, including BYD Seagull and E2. The Flying collection of the BYD Seagull model, with a range of 405 km on one charge, is priced at 208,300,000 UZS ($16,400) through dealer networks, making it $4,300 more expensive than in China.
On the other hand, private car showrooms are offering the same model for a lower price range of $14,300 to $15,000. In neighboring Kazakhstan, the price of this car is around $14,500. The price difference stems from the inclusion of various fees such as import costs, VAT, processing fees, certification fees, and customs fees in the price offered by private dealers.
BYD Uzbekistan has the advantage of importing up to 50% of production capacity, not exceeding 10 thousand units per year, without paying customs duty and disposal fee for at least 2 years. Director General of BYD Uzbekistan Factory, Shafkatbek Alimov, has stated that locally produced BYDs will be more cost-effective compared to imports.
In addition to the BYD Seagull Flying model, the official price of BYD E2 model has been set at $19,300 or 242 million UZS. This price is 42 million UZS higher than the price offered by private car showrooms. With BYD making waves in the Uzbek market, customers have more options to choose from in the electric car segment.
