Uzbekistan Pilgrims Stranded in Saudi Arabia, Extra Flights Organized for Return

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has released a statement addressing the challenges faced by Uzbek pilgrims during their Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca and Medina, particularly in regards to their return home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged the difficulties experienced by pilgrims who were stranded due to technical issues in flight arrangements and the lack of necessary expertise among private tourist companies that organized the trips.

As of February 4, 2024, a number of these pilgrims have been successfully repatriated to Uzbekistan, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the swift return of the remaining citizens. The Uzbekistan Embassy in Riyadh and the General Consulate in Jeddah are closely monitoring the situation and providing consular, legal, and other necessary assistance to their compatriots.

In collaboration with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport and other relevant agencies, a schedule for additional flights has been established to expedite the repatriation process.

The Consulate General is urging citizens to adhere to the rules and regulations of Saudi Arabia while the situation is being resolved.

This situation highlights the importance of proper planning and organization when undertaking religious pilgrimages, and serves as a reminder for pilgrims to thoroughly research and choose reputable tourism companies for their pilgrimage arrangements.
