Uzbekistan President and US Congress Member Collaborate to Strengthen Interparliamentary Cooperation
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting today with a delegation from the United States, led by Congresswoman Carol Miller, who is a member of the Congressional Caucus on Cooperation with Uzbekistan.
The discussions, as reported by the presidential press service, revolved around enhancing and strengthening the strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States.
At the start of the meeting, Congresswoman Miller conveyed warm greetings and well wishes to President Mirziyoyev on behalf of the U.S. President, Congress leadership, and members of the Congressional Caucus on Uzbekistan.
Both sides expressed great satisfaction with the current high level of bilateral cooperation. Political contacts and interagency exchanges continue actively, while trade turnover and investment volumes have significantly increased in recent years, bolstering business ties.
The presence of educational institutions such as Webster University and the American University of Technology in Tashkent further solidifies educational connections between the two countries.
Moreover, collaborative efforts in crucial areas such as transport, customs, migration, culture, and other priority sectors are ongoing.
Congresswoman Miller praised Uzbekistan’s reform initiatives under the “New Uzbekistan” agenda, noting advancements in economic modernization, democratic institution reinforcement – particularly the parliament, and gender equality promotion.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of expanding interparliamentary cooperation to support economic and investment ventures, especially in mining, industrial, energy, and agricultural sectors.
Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of fostering partnerships between Uzbekistan’s regions and U.S. states.
Furthermore, the parties exchanged perspectives on current regional matters and the situation in Afghanistan.
