Uzbekistan Ranks 94th in Women Peace and Security Index Report
Uzbekistan has been ranked 94th out of 177 countries in the 2023 Women Peace and Security Index report. This position indicates one of the lowest scores among Central Asian countries. Turkmenistan, ranked 58th overall, secured the top spot in the region. Kazakhstan came in at 70th place, followed by Tajikistan at 90th. Kyrgyzstan was just behind Uzbekistan in 95th place.
The report highlights Denmark, Switzerland, and Sweden as having the best indicators for women’s peace and security in the world. On the other hand, Afghanistan, Yemen, and the Central African Republic rank the lowest.
The Women Peace and Security Index report takes into account 13 indicators divided into three categories: inclusiveness, justice, and security. Inclusiveness includes factors like education, access to financial services, employment, use of mobile phones, and the percentage of women in parliament. Justice considers factors such as the absence of legal discrimination, access to justice, maternal mortality rate, and bias. Security focuses on protection from domestic violence, women’s perception of safety in society, political violence against women, and proximity to armed conflicts.
The data for the report was collected from various sources, including UN agencies, the World Bank, Gallup polls, among others. The authors of the report emphasize that countries where women feel comfortable tend to be more prosperous, peaceful, democratic, and better prepared for the effects of climate change.
Improving women’s peace and security is critical for the overall well-being, development, and stability of a country. Uzbekistan will need to address the factors mentioned in the report to improve its ranking and create an environment conducive to gender equality and safety for women. By focusing on inclusiveness, justice, and security, Uzbekistan can strive towards a better future for its women and the nation as a whole.
