Uzbekistan Repatriates Two Orphaned Children from Russia

Two Children Repatriated to Uzbekistan from Russia with Assistance from Juvenile Detention Center
Two children who were left without parental care in Russia have been successfully repatriated to Uzbekistan with the help of the Temporary Detention Center for Juvenile Offenders in Moscow. The children were placed in the center following a police raid.
The National Agency of Social Protection’s press service revealed that one of the children had been involved in labor migration since 2023. Despite still being a 9th-grade student, they traveled to Moscow with their older sister’s husband and started working as a janitor before transitioning to a dishwasher in a café.
The second child had traveled to Russia under a power of attorney issued by their parents. Both children were placed in a temporary detention center for juvenile offenders after the police raid.
The agency highlighted that a power of attorney issued for accompanying children from Uzbekistan does not grant legal guardianship rights in another country.
In an effort to reunite children who have been deprived of parental care abroad with their families, the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs, as well as the National Agency of Social Protection, are planning to repatriate more children in March. Practical measures are also being implemented to ensure the successful reintegration of these children into a family environment.
