Uzbekistan Saves 1.5 Billion Cubic Meters of Gas with Renewable Energy Efforts
Uzbekistan Making Significant Strides in Green Energy Sector
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently announced that Uzbekistan has been able to save 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas since the beginning of the year, all thanks to the commissioning of new capacities in green energy. This achievement is a result of the successful implementation of green energy projects in the country.
In the first half of the year, Uzbekistan saw the launch of 10 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.4 GW. These plants were able to produce 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of green energy, leading to the significant gas savings. President Mirziyoyev mentioned this progress during a government meeting, highlighting the positive impact of investing in renewable energy sources.
Looking ahead, Uzbekistan has ambitious plans to further expand its renewable energy capacity. By 2030, the country aims to increase the capacity of renewable energy sources to over 20 GW, accounting for around 40% of the total energy balance.
In the coming years, Uzbekistan is set to commission more wind power plants across different regions. In 2025, two wind power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each will be launched in the Peshku and Gijduvan districts of the Bukhara region. Additionally, in 2026, four wind power plants with a total capacity of 1600 MW are scheduled to be operational in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
With these developments in the green energy sector, Uzbekistan is not only reducing its reliance on gas but also contributing to a more sustainable future. The country’s commitment to renewable energy is paving the way for a greener and more environmentally friendly energy landscape.
