Uzbekistan seals economic and investment pacts with three nations

On March 27, 2025, the President of Uzbekistan ratified three international agreements aimed at fostering economic cooperation with Portugal, Slovakia, and India.

The first agreement, the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Portugal, was signed in New York on September 23, 2024. The second agreement, the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of Slovakia, was signed in New York on September 24, 2024. Lastly, the Bilateral Investment Treaty between the Government of Uzbekistan and India was signed in Tashkent on September 27, 2024.

The Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade has been tasked with implementing these agreements, while the Cabinet of Ministers and relevant ministries and agencies will oversee their enforcement once they come into effect.

The economic cooperation agreements with Portugal and Slovakia, signed by the foreign ministers of both countries, are expected to enhance trade and investment cooperation significantly. Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov highlighted the importance of these agreements in fostering stronger business ties, trade development, and the implementation of joint projects to advance bilateral relations.

The bilateral investment treaty with India, signed during a business forum, ensures that investors from both countries receive adequate protection in line with international standards. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev and India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman were present at the signing, underscoring the commitment to strengthening economic ties between Uzbekistan and India.
