Uzbekistan authorities seize large amounts of drugs smuggled from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan
Authorities in Uzbekistan have seized a significant amount of drugs that were being smuggled into the country from neighboring Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. According to reports from the National News Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA), the State Security Service and the Customs Committee discovered and confiscated approximately 30 kilograms of hashish, almost 4 kilograms of opium, and more than 4.5 kilograms of mephedrone.
The statement from UzA indicates that the drugs were intercepted at various locations within Uzbekistan. In one instance, the drugs were found during a search of an apartment belonging to a resident of the Tashlak district of the Fergana region. Another individual was detained in the Kurgantepe district of Andijan region while attempting to sell 1.8 kilograms of mephedrone for $80,000. It was also reported that a significant quantity of illicit drugs, including Regapen and Tropicamide, were found in a vehicle driven by a resident of Andijan region.
The discovery and seizure of these illegal substances are a significant win for Uzbekistan’s law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat drug trafficking. The cross-border nature of the smuggling operation highlights the importance of cooperation between neighboring countries in the region to tackle the illicit drug trade.
