Uzbekistan strengthens anti-corruption laws, expands focus to cyberspace

A new presidential decree has been issued in an effort to strengthen the national system for combating corruption in the country. Titled “On Measures for the Effective Implementation of Priority Tasks Identified for Further Improving the Anti-Corruption System,” the decree aims to enhance anti-corruption efforts at all levels of governance.

As part of the decree, a list of regulatory legal acts and a program of practical measures have been approved to fulfill the directives announced during the extended session of the National Anti-Corruption Council held on March 5, 2025.

To increase the role of the parliament in the fight against corruption and crime, the chambers of the Oliy Majlis have been given specific recommendations. These include annually identifying corruption risk factors in key ministries and agencies, requiring candidates for ministerial and regional governor positions to present anti-corruption action plans, studying international practices for effective anti-corruption measures in cyberspace, conducting in-depth analyses of crime causes in high-risk neighborhoods, and improving the effectiveness of local prosecutors and heads of internal affairs bodies.

Overall, the presidential decree aims to further enhance the country’s anti-corruption system and strengthen efforts to combat corruption at all levels of governance.
