
Uzbekistan Suggests Collaborative Economic Endeavors with EU

The European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Sikela, recently visited Central Asia to enhance cooperation and promote the EU’s Global Gateway initiative. During his visit, discussions were held with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding the development of multifaceted Uzbek-European relations.
A key topic of conversation was the “prompt signing” of a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the European Union. Both parties expressed interest in advancing joint projects and programs in various sectors such as transportation, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and water management.
One notable project that was discussed during the meetings was the construction of a new railway and highway connecting Uchkuduk to Kyzylorda. This infrastructure development is part of the Global Gateway initiative aimed at improving connectivity and boosting trade volumes in the region.
In addition to discussing infrastructure projects, the parties also explored the possibility of establishing joint industrial-logistics parks in Uzbekistan to create value-added production facilities and generate economic opportunities.
Overall, the discussions between Commissioner Sikela and Uzbekistan officials highlighted the mutual interest in strengthening cooperation and pursuing mutually beneficial projects in various sectors to foster economic growth and trade opportunities.
