Surge in Car Production in Uzbekistan in Q1 2025
Car production in Uzbekistan experienced a noteworthy boost in the first quarter of 2025, as reported by the National Statistics Committee. From January to March, the country produced a total of 89,848 passenger cars, reflecting an impressive increase of over 6% compared to the same timeframe in 2024.
Key Highlights:
Dominance of Chevrolet Cobalt: The Chevrolet Cobalt emerged as the most manufactured vehicle, with production rising by 13.58% to reach 32,200 units. Remarkably, one out of every three cars produced in Uzbekistan was a Cobalt.
Damas and Other Models: Following the Cobalt, the Damas ranked second with 22,400 units produced, showing a significant growth of 17.97%. However, the Chery and Tracker models faced declines; production fell by 33.24% for Chery, with only 1,996 units, and Tracker saw a 12.57% decrease, totaling 10,513 units.
Onix Gains Traction: The Onix model enjoyed substantial growth, with production hitting 11,770 units, a notable increase of 41.21%. Kia also managed to revitalize production, manufacturing 6,150 vehicles—an increase of nearly 25% after a winter slump. Haval experienced even more remarkable growth, expanding its output over eightfold to reach 1,885 units.
- Electric Vehicle Production: The BYD plant in the Jizzakh region contributed significantly to the landscape by producing 2,913 electric vehicles.
Sales Overview:
According to Uzavtosanoat, 75,353 cars were sold in the first quarter, with UzAuto Motors increasing its market share to 54.3%. Other notable players included Khorezm Auto (28.2%), ADM Jizzakh (11.4%), and BYD Uzbekistan Factory (5.4%). The combined share of other manufacturers remained below 0.6%.
Leading Brands and Models:
In sales, Chevrolet retained its leadership position with over 62,260 vehicles sold, nearly half of which were Cobalt models. Kia followed with 5,431 units sold, while BYD made strides with 4,045 electric cars. Chery and Haval rounded out the top five, selling 1,782 and 1,410 vehicles, respectively.
Among individual models, the top five consisted of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Damas, Tracker, Labo, and Onix, collectively accounting for over 81% of all sales. The Kia Sonet slipped to sixth place, overtaken by the Onix, while the remainder of the top ten featured three BYD models alongside the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.
In summary, the car industry in Uzbekistan demonstrates robust growth as key manufacturers enhance production and sales, particularly in the passenger segment. The combination of traditional models and the introduction of electric vehicles indicates a dynamic shift in the automotive landscape of the nation.
