Abat Fayzullayev, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Italy, Cyprus, and Malta, Presents Credentials in San Marino

Abat Fayzullayev, Uzbekistan’s first ambassador to San Marino, with residence in Rome, recently presented his credentials to the heads of state — Captains-Regent Francesca Civerchia and Dalibor Riccardi. This historic event marked the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and San Marino.

During the ceremony, Luca Beccari, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, commended Uzbekistan for its large-scale economic and democratic reforms. He also praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to enhance dialogue with San Marino and underscored the significance of appointing the first-ever ambassador to the country.

Minister Beccari highlighted Uzbekistan’s commitment to addressing climate and environmental issues, as well as its role in promoting sustainable development. He expressed confidence in the continued growth of trade and economic cooperation between the two nations, as well as the strengthening of the bilateral legal framework.

Furthermore, the minister emphasized mutual support for candidates and initiatives within the United Nations and OSCE to foster multilateral cooperation. He confirmed San Marino’s active participation in international events scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan later this year.

Abat Fayzullayev, who also serves as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Italy and the permanent representative to international organizations in Rome, including FAO, WHO, and UNDP, will assume the role of Ambassador to Cyprus in December 2024. Additionally, he is slated to become Uzbekistan’s first ambassador to Malta in March 2025.

The Captains-Regent in San Marino are the collective heads of state and government, elected every six months by the General Council. They play an essential role in the governance of the country, with their terms commencing on April 1 and October 1 of each year. It is noteworthy that Captains-Regent typically come from opposing political parties, reflecting the spirit of democracy in San Marino.
