Uzbekistan’s Plan to Generate Over 10,000 Jobs in Copper Industry Expansion
The Uzbekistan government has announced a new concept for the development of the copper industry cluster in the country until 2030. A draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers titled “On the concept of development of a copper industry cluster aimed at creating multi-level value chains from raw materials to finished products” has been published.
The draft resolution includes plans to approve various documents such as the concept for the development of the copper industry cluster of Uzbekistan until 2030, a roadmap for creating a full cycle technological chain for the production of high added value products from copper raw materials for 2024-2030, target indicators and a target program for processing copper raw materials for the production of products with high added value for 2024-2030, and a procedure for placing investors on the territory of the copper industry cluster.
The adoption of the draft decision and the implementation of the concept are expected to achieve the following by 2030:
– Annual copper production reaching 400 thousand tons, with more than 300 thousand tons processed in the industry.
– Increasing production volume to $8 billion by attracting investments of $1.5 billion to localize the production of electrical equipment and household appliances.
– Attracting domestic and foreign investments to the production of finished copper products and semi-finished products within the cluster.
– Increasing the degree of processing of copper raw materials to 80% through copper processing projects within the cluster.
– Localization of new types of equipment and components needed in the mining and metallurgical industry to replace imports.
– Increasing the volume of exports of finished products and services with high added value.
– Creating a system for training and advanced training of highly qualified personnel in the mining and metallurgical industry.
– Creating more than 10,000 new jobs through the establishment of new production facilities in the cluster.
