Uzbekistan’s President Approves Issyk-Kul Resort Agreement

On October 2, 2024, the news agency 24.kg reported that Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved an agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan regarding resort and recreational facilities in the Issyk-Kul region. This agreement aims to regulate property rights to recreational facilities on the shores of the lake and ensure their continued operation.
The list of resorts included in the agreement consists of Golden Sands of Central Asia (formerly Bosteri), Rokhat-NBU (formerly Rakhat), Dilorom (formerly Enesai), and the unfinished Buston resort. The Kyrgyz side will transfer ownership of these facilities to the Uzbek side, which will designate authorized organizations to manage these properties.
Specifically, Tashkent Mechanical Plant JSC will oversee the Golden Sands of Central Asia resort, while the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan JSC will manage Rokhat-NBU. Asakabank JSC will be responsible for Dilorom resort, and Uzpromstroibank JSC will handle the construction of the Buston resort.
The agreement was officially signed on July 18, 2024, during President Sadyr Japarov’s visit to Uzbekistan. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic endorsed the agreement on September 23.
This significant development signals increased cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the tourism sector, particularly in the popular Issyk-Kul region. The agreement will not only streamline the management of these resorts but also potentially boost tourism and economic opportunities in the area.
