Uzbekistan’s President Sends Condolences to Putin for Loss of Russian General
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan recently expressed his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the tragic death of Russian General Igor Kirillov and his assistant. The two leaders discussed various bilateral and multilateral issues during a phone conversation on December 19.
Mirziyoyev emphasized Uzbekistan’s firm condemnation of the “heinous terrorist attack” that led to the deaths of General Kirillov and his assistant. The President also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the special services of Uzbekistan and Russia in addressing security threats.
The phone call was initiated by the Uzbek side, demonstrating the strong bond between the two countries. Mirziyoyev also congratulated Putin on the success of his recent event and year-end press conference.
General Kirillov and his assistant were killed in a tragic explosion in Moscow on December 17. A suspect, identified as a 29-year-old Uzbek citizen, was detained in connection with the attack. The suspect confessed to being recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services and offered a substantial reward for his involvement.
The incident underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism and the need for international cooperation in combating such attacks. Both Uzbekistan and Russia remain committed to working together to ensure the safety and security of their citizens.
