Uzbekistan’s Real Per Capita Income Growth Slows Threefold in 2021

The total per capita income in Uzbekistan in 2023 amounted to 20 million soums, with a real growth rate of 2.4%. However, this growth is significantly slower than the previous year, which saw a 7.3% increase in total per capita income. The Statistics Agency reported that the total income of the population at the end of last year was 728.8 trillion soums, with a nominal growth of 15% and a real growth of 4.6%.

In terms of nominal total income per capita, Tashkent recorded the highest figure at 44,427.9 thousand soums, followed by Navoi region, Bukhara region, Tashkent region, and Khorezm region. The lowest nominal total income per capita was recorded in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Namangan region, and Fergana region.

The highest rate of real growth of per capita total income was in Tashkent city, Navoi region, Syrdarya region, Andijan region, and Jizzakh region. However, real income per capita decreased in five regions, namely Khorezm, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Namangan.

The growth in total income of the population was mainly driven by changes in income from self-employment, income of employees, and income from transfers. It is worth noting that the growth of state budget revenues has slowed sharply in 2023.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan’s GDP grew by 6% and amounted to $90.8 billion, with GDP per capita reaching 29.3 million soums or $2,494.

Overall, while the total per capita income in Uzbekistan saw some growth in 2023, the pace was slower than the previous year. The disparities in income levels across different regions also highlight the need for targeted interventions to address income inequality and improve economic opportunities for all citizens.
