
Uzbekistan’s U-23 Team Advances to Asian Cup Semi-Finals

The Uzbekistan youth team has made history by defeating Saudi Arabia and advancing to the semi-finals of the Asian U-23 Football Championship. The match, which took place on April 26 in Qatar, ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of Uzbekistan.
The first goal was scored in extra time of the first half (45+2′) by striker Khusain Norchayev, taking advantage of a defensive mistake by the Saudi Arabian team. Forward Ruslanbek Jiyanov extended the lead in the 36th minute with a precise shot from a tight angle.
In the 70th minute, Saudi Arabia’s Ayman Salem received a second yellow card and was sent off, giving Uzbekistan a numerical advantage. Midfielder Umarali Rakhmonaliev sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th minute.
This victory means that Uzbekistan U-23 has eliminated the reigning champion and secured a spot in the semi-finals. Their next match will be against Indonesia U-23 on April 29 at 19:00, who defeated South Korea in a penalty shootout.
The Asian U-23 Football Championship is a prestigious tournament held every two years, organized by the Asian Football Confederation. This year’s tournament in Qatar serves as the qualifying event for the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. The top three teams from the tournament will qualify as Asian representatives, with the fourth-placed team entering a playoff match. A total of 16 teams are competing in the tournament, with Saudi Arabia currently holding the title.
