Uzbekistan’s Youth Achieve Fivefold Increase in IELTS Success

The number of young people in Uzbekistan excelling in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) has seen a remarkable increase, with almost 53,000 test-takers scoring 5.5 or higher in 2024. This figure represents a fivefold rise compared to 2020, as reported by the British Council and IDP and shared by Alisher Sadullayev, Director of the Youth Affairs Agency.
In the last four years, the number of Uzbek youth achieving scores between 7 and 8 (equivalent to the C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR) has surged by 7.4 times. From 1,807 test-takers reaching this level in 2020, the count has escalated to 13,424 in 2024.
Furthermore, the highest scores, ranging from 8.5 to 9 and corresponding to the CEFR C2 level, have also experienced significant growth. In 2020, only 14 individuals achieved this level, but by 2024, the number had risen to 332, demonstrating the increasing English proficiency among Uzbek youth.
Overall, these statistics indicate a positive trend of enhancement in English language skills throughout Uzbekistan, with more students successfully meeting globally recognized standards in language proficiency.
