Verstappen Continues Push After Japan Win Narrows Gap to Norris

Max Verstappen Secures First Victory of the Season at Japanese Grand Prix
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen claimed his first victory of the 2025 Formula One season at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, solidifying his dominance at Suzuka. The Red Bull driver led from pole to chequered flag, finishing almost 1.5 seconds ahead of championship leader Lando Norris of McLaren.
Verstappen’s win, his fourth consecutive victory in Japan, narrowed the gap between him and Norris in the drivers’ championship to just one point. Despite struggling with his Red Bull car this season, Verstappen’s performance at Suzuka showed that when everything clicks, he can be a frontrunner.
Speaking after the race, Verstappen remained focused on his own performance, stating, “I just focus on my own performances and just keep working, keep grinding.” Norris currently leads the championship with 62 points, followed closely by Verstappen at 61 points and Oscar Piastri in third with 49 points.
The Formula One action now shifts to Bahrain for the next race weekend, followed by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix the weekend after. Verstappen’s victory in Japan has set the stage for an exciting battle for the championship title as the season progresses.
