Veteran Second-Hand Bookseller İbrahim Manav’s Final Journey
Veteran second-hand bookseller İbrahim Manav, who had been undergoing treatment for two years, passed away despite all the interventions made on the night of January 10th, 2022. Manav’s funeral was held at Fatih Mosque, and he was laid to rest at Edirnekapı Cemetery in Istanbul. The funeral was attended by famous names such as Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, journalist Murat Bardakçı, and Erhan Afyoncu, along with their relatives.
Manav’s brother, Ahmet Manav, expressed his sadness and referred to İbrahim as their brother, father, master, and everything. He stated that his brother was the doyen of the Booksellers’ Bazaar, the oldest living brother, and everything to them.
The President of the Beyazıt Bookstores Bazaar Association, Adil Sarmusak, also expressed his grief, saying that the cultural life had lost a very important person. He referred to İbrahim as his brother, with whom he had a good friendship over the years. Sarmusak talked about İbrahim’s extensive experience in old historical, antique and scientific books, and said that they had benefited a lot from his experience.
İbrahim Manav was a valuable person who had seen the second-hand booksellers’ market from a young age, taken it from old masters, and passed on his knowledge to others. His passing is a significant loss to the cultural and literary community and his legacy will continue to live on through his work, experience, and the memories of those who knew him.
