Victims of Fraudulent TOKİ House Promises – Last Minute News from Turkey

A woman in Diyarbakır, Turkey, has been arrested and is facing a lawsuit for committing fraud. The woman, identified as Yener T., is accused of receiving money from 33 people, including her own mother, under the false promise of providing them with houses from the government housing agency, TOKİ. The amounts of money received ranged from 10,000 to 170,000 liras.
The scam allegedly involved telling people that the Yenişehir Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation would secretly provide apartments to those in need in TOKİ buildings, without the need for a lottery. Yener T. also claimed that he was able to secure the flats through contacts at the institution, and that they were handed over every 2-3 years.
Several individuals have come forward to complain about being defrauded by Yener T. This includes her own mother, who stated that she had given a total of 45,530 liras to her daughter based on false promises. Yener T.’s sister and various other individuals also reported giving substantial amounts of money with hopes of acquiring a house from TOKİ.
The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office requests a prison sentence of 96 to 320 years for Yener T. for “qualified fraud”. The court has accepted the indictment, and the case will proceed.
It is alleged that Yener T. took advantage of the trust of her friends, family, and other individuals to unlawfully profit from their money transfers. The case is ongoing, and the defendant will face the consequences of her alleged actions if found guilty.
