Victims Seek Maximum Penalty for Ruben Vardanyan

Armenian Citizen on Trial for Crimes Against Peace and Humanity

Victims have come forward in the criminal case against Armenian citizen Ruben Vardanyan, who is facing charges under various articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan related to crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, as well as terrorism, financing terrorism, and other serious offenses.

One of the victims, Sayyad Alakbarli, testified that he was acquainted with Ruben Vardanyan through the media and had suffered injuries after stepping on a mine that was brought from Armenia and buried in Azerbaijan’s sovereign territories. The incident took place in August 2023 while Alakbarli was working in Khojaly.

Other victims, including Jalal Guliyev, Ravan Aghazada, Nariman Abishli, Elbrus Azimli, Elmaddin Aghayev, Faig Azizov, Sakhavat Ismayil, Ismayil Huisonov, and Ibrahim Hamidli, stated that they were injured during their military service in Kalbajar.

During the court proceedings, each victim requested that the court impose the most severe punishment possible on the accused, Ruben Vardanyan.

The trial is set to continue on March 18 as the legal process unfolds to bring justice for the victims of these alleged crimes against peace and humanity.
