Western Azerbaijan Community Condemns President Macron’s Statement
Baku, June 29 – The Western Azerbaijan Community has expressed its dismay at the recent statement made by President Macron of France. During a meeting with radical elements of the Armenian diaspora, President Macron claimed to be more vocal than the Armenian Government in defending the interests of Armenia in the context of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to the Community, as reported by AZERTAC.
The Community strongly condemns President Macron’s use of vocabulary that infringes upon the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. They argue that France’s apparent dissatisfaction with Armenia’s recent recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty raises concerns about France’s perception of Armenia as a sovereign state. The Community sees President Macron’s statement as evidence of France’s complicity in past misdeeds committed by Armenia, including ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis and the refusal to allow the safe and dignified return of expelled Azerbaijanis to their homes in Armenia.
In light of these concerns, the Western Azerbaijan Community urges France to respect the principles of international law, especially non-interference in domestic affairs, sovereignty, territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and to refrain from obstructing the safe and dignified return of expelled Azerbaijanis to their homeland.
It is essential for all parties involved to promote dialogue and contribute to a peaceful resolution of the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The international community must uphold the principles of international law and work towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
