What is TCG ANADOLU’s savings balance?
The TCG ANADOLU (L400) Amphibious Assault Ship, the largest and most expensive platform of the Turkish Navy, has been commissioned as the ‘Sancak Ship’ of the Turkish Navy. The ship is 232-meters-long and has been developed jointly by Turkey with the Spanish company Navantia and produced locally. The domestic construction of TCG ANADOLU provided significant benefits for the development of the Turkish defense industry. President of the Presidency of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir clarified that if the ship was produced abroad and the war management system was foreign, many products from radar to electronic-support system, from electro-optics to weapon systems would also be supplied from abroad, leading to an extra cost of 400 million Euros.
The ADVENT Combat Management System used in TCG ANADOLU allows for any national solution to be easily integrated into the ship. HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar stated that the ADVENT system is one of the 3 systems in the world in its class. The ship can accommodate 4 LCM ships carrying 1 tank each.
The project started on 1 June 2015, and the final delivery was made on 10 April 2023. The ship’s basic technical specifications include a full load displacement of no more than 27,436 tons, a maximum speed of at least 20.5 knots, an economic speed of 16 knots at full load displacement, and a cruising range of at least 9,000 nautical miles at full load with its economic speed.
The domestic construction of TCG ANADOLU is a significant achievement for the Turkish defense industry and a source of national pride. The ship’s successful production locally not only saved 400 million Euros but also helped advance the domestic defense industry’s capabilities.
