White Hat Hackers Participated in STM CTF

Turkey’s Longest-Running Cyber Security Competition “Capture The Flag-CTF’23” Showcases the Talent of White Hat Hackers

STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc., in collaboration with “Cyber Homeland” under the leadership of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), successfully organized the 9th edition of the “Capture The Flag-CTF” event.

This year, the competition took place online on October 27-28, attracting the participation of numerous white hat hackers, also known as well-intentioned cyber security experts. A total of 324 teams and 760 individuals passionately competed in the STM CTF23 cyber security competition, which spanned 24 hours without interruption.

The event aimed to raise awareness and provide training for talented individuals in the field of cyber security. STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz emphasized the importance of the competition in his opening speech, stating that STM is committed to contributing to the defense industry and ensuring a self-sufficient Turkey. He highlighted the company’s initiatives in cyber security, including the establishment of Turkey’s first cyber fusion center, STM-SFM, in 2016.

Moreover, STM has been actively involved in various national projects related to cyber defense, including the Cyber Defense Center of the Turkish Armed Forces and the Information Security Project of the Cyber Crimes Department of the General Directorate of Security. Güleryüz emphasized the need to continue the fight for the “Cyber Homeland” in the expanding field of cyberspace.

The CTF competition attracted young individuals and cyber security researchers who aspire to pursue careers in the field. Participants engaged in intense battles to identify cyber security vulnerabilities and gain control of systems. Held in October, which is globally celebrated as “Cyber Security Awareness Month,” this competition highlighted the importance of cyber security.

A total prize pool of 225 thousand TL awaited the winning teams. The first-place team, “çoraplar5,” received 100 thousand TL, while the second-place team, “DWORD,” won 75 thousand TL, and the third-place team, “Cliware,” secured 50 thousand TL. In addition to monetary rewards, successful competitors also had the opportunity to gain internships or career prospects at STM.

The STM CTF competition has played a vital role in enhancing cyber awareness among youth and emphasizing the ongoing struggle for the “Cyber Homeland.” Its annual presence has captivated the attention of aspiring professionals in the cyber security industry, who seek to contribute to Turkey’s defense and ensure the nation’s secure future.
