Wildfire still raging across 7-8 regions in Yeşilırmak.

Massive wildfire in Yeşilırmak region still out of control, requesting assistance from Turkey and Southern Cyprus

A massive wildfire that started in the Yeşilırmak region in Northern Cyprus is still out of control. Despite the efforts of the local fire brigade and Civil Defense Organization teams, the blaze, which is said to have scattered to seven or eight different points, has been raging on for hours. As the situation deteriorated, the authorities have requested additional support from Turkey and Southern Cyprus.

According to Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry, Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, due to the steep and elevated terrain in the region, containing the fire has been an arduous task. In his statement, he mentioned that a helicopter from Turkey and another from the Greek Cypriot Administration were already on their way to assist in extinguishing the fire.

In addition, Cahitoğlu said that the necessary measures have been taken to avoid the spread of the fire to the nearby villages in the region and Lefke. However, due to the high winds and challenging terrain conditions, he emphasized that it is a challenging task to contain the fire.

Forest Department Director Salih Güneş gave more details of the wildfire, stating that it broke out in the valley south of Yeşilırmak and that attempts are still ongoing to prevent it from spreading further. Güneş also stated that the helicopter belonging to the Security Forces Command was already deployed to intervene in the fire from the air while waiting for additional assistance from Turkey.

Despite the ongoing efforts, the wildfire is still raging in the Yeşilırmak region, causing substantial damage to the environment and the wild habitat. Local authorities urge everyone to be cautious and to follow fire safety protocols to avoid further damage.
