Wizz Air Passengers Face 20-Hour Delay in Madrid Before Easter Weekend
Dozens of Wizz Air passengers had a frustrating experience in Madrid as their flight to Budapest was delayed for nearly 20 hours, just before the busy Easter weekend. The flight, W6 2372, was originally scheduled to depart from Madrid at 8:15 PM on 18 April 2025 but was delayed due to technical issues.
Passengers were only informed around 2:00 AM that the flight would not depart until 12:30 PM the following day, leading to a 16-hour delay. Passengers had to retrieve their luggage in the middle of the night and make their way to a hotel provided by the airline.
Many affected passengers, including families with small children, had to wait at the airport for hours and some even rested on the terminal floor. Despite the significant delay, Wizz Air only offered a single EUR 5 food voucher as compensation, along with breakfast at the hotel.
The incident highlights the challenges airlines face during peak travel seasons like Easter, with high passenger volumes and near-full flights. Travel blog Utazómajom reached out to Wizz Air for a statement and will provide updates as they become available.
In an update, Wizz Air informed passengers that the next departure time was 7:30 PM due to the aircraft being struck by lightning en route from Budapest to Madrid. The airline emphasized the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft as their top priority and offered meal vouchers on multiple occasions along with hotel accommodation.
