Wizz Air Plans Expansion and Joint Airline Launch in Uzbekistan

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is looking to expand its presence in Uzbekistan through the establishment of a joint airline in the country. Talks have also taken place to discuss the possibility of increasing flight routes from Uzbekistan to Europe and developing transit flight options through the nation.
During negotiations with Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov, Wizz Air CEO József Váradi, and Hungarian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Rose József, plans were discussed to potentially increase the number of flights on the Tashkent – Abu Dhabi – Tashkent route. Additionally, the parties explored options to establish air connections with the cities of Namangan and Urgench and to consider the creation of a joint airline in Uzbekistan.
As a result of the meeting, Makhkamov proposed that Wizz Air initiate direct flights between Uzbekistan and Hungary, with the goal of launching a regular Tashkent – Budapest – Tashkent route by the end of 2025. This partnership could open up new opportunities for both Wizz Air and Uzbekistan, providing more convenient and affordable travel options for passengers.
