World Bank injects $50 million into Uzbekistan’s digital sector

The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the World Bank, is set to launch the “Digital Inclusion” project aimed at developing the digital economy and creating job opportunities in the IT sector. The agreement, which involves a preferential credit of $50 million, was recently signed by both parties.

World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde, and Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov discussed strategies for market reforms and climate change responses during a meeting in Washington. The “Digital Inclusion” project will focus on training residents of rural and remote areas under the age of 30, as well as attracting IT companies to the region.

IT Park will play a key role in organizing training programs and launching initiatives to bring IT companies to Uzbekistan. Additionally, 11 IT service centers will be established to encourage technology companies to open regional offices in the country. Financial incentives will also be provided to support the expansion of these companies.

The project aims to create job opportunities for 9,000 young people, including women and individuals with disabilities, in the IT sector. It also includes plans to train 6,200 people in digital skills, communications, and foreign languages. Furthermore, the initiative will focus on developing the legislative framework for Uzbekistan’s IT sector.

Overall, the “Digital Inclusion” project is expected to stimulate growth in the digital economy, promote job creation in the IT sector, and enhance skills development for the workforce in Uzbekistan.
