Yandex Eats and Express24 dominate Uzbekistan’s food delivery market
The Competition Committee in Uzbekistan has officially acknowledged Yandex Eats and Express24 as dominant players in the nation’s food delivery market. These companies, who have recently announced plans to consolidate onto a single platform, have now been classified as digital platform operators holding a monopoly in this sector.
According to the ruling from the Competition Committee, YandexGo UB LLC, Yandex Eats LLC JV, and Express24 APP LLC are now recognized as dominant market players. Yandex Go is the leading force in the taxi aggregation market, while Yandex Eats and Express24 are at the forefront of food and consumer goods delivery services.
The committee’s decision is based on notifications from Yandex Eats LLC JV and YandexGo UB LLC, which confirmed their dominant positions in their respective markets. The committee has expressed its approval of the companies’ compliance with new regulatory requirements and has announced the implementation of a compulsory antitrust compliance system to prevent any abuse of their market dominance. Ongoing monitoring will also take place to ensure adherence to these regulations.
Yandex Uzbekistan recently shared news of its acquisition of part of Express24’s assets on October 25. When asked by Kun.uz, Yandex’s press service confirmed that the deal does not fall under state economic concentration oversight requirements, but it has been reported to the Competition Committee for transparency.
This recognition of YandexGo’s dominance in the market follows the committee’s previous ruling on December 4 last year which designated the company as the leader in the taxi aggregation market in Uzbekistan. The committee’s acknowledgement of Yandex Eats and Express24’s dominant positions solidifies their standing in the food delivery sector and underscores their importance in the market.
