Young Cyclists Honored in Ashgabat

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative office in Turkmenistan recently collaborated with the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports to organize an award ceremony for participants of a cycle ride. The event, which took place from May 27 to 29, saw more than 40 young boys and girls participate in honor of World Bicycle Day, celebrated annually on June 3.

The young cyclists showcased their enthusiasm as they covered the distance, highlighting Turkmenistan’s dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle, sports, and gender equality among youth. Kemal Goshliev, Head of the UNFPA office in Turkmenistan, emphasized that the cycle ride not only contributes to maintaining health but also aligns with the green development agenda.

In addition to the award ceremony, quiz, and discussions on gender equality, equal opportunities, and the youth’s role in the country’s development were held by the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and UNFPA. Turkmen athletes have been achieving remarkable results at international competitions, demonstrating that women can excel and compete in various areas of life, including sports.

The collaboration between UNFPA and the State Committee reflects a shared commitment to promoting health, sports, and gender equality in Turkmenistan. This event serves as a platform for young cyclists to showcase their skills and contribute to the country’s development.
