Young lawyer’s lover arrested for secret death

24-year-old lawyer Belen Nesil Coşgün was found dead in her residence in Ankara Çankaya, after sending a distress signal from a mobile application designed to prevent violence against women. Coşgün had used the KADES app to call for help three times in a row, prompting the police to take action. The police discovered her body on the floor in front of the elevator door, covered in blood. The young lawyer had been shot in the chest and did not survive.
Coşgün’s boyfriend, Muhammet B., who was present at the scene, was detained by the police on suspicion of murder. During the examination of the crime scene, traces of blood were found in the bedroom, and the weapon used in the incident was discovered hidden in the quilt.
According to Fevzi Kızılkoyun’s report in Hürriyet, Muhammet B. claimed that he heard a gunshot when he was in the bathroom and found Coşgün injured in bed. He stated that he carried her to the front of the elevator and called emergency services. However, he was arrested on the charge of deliberate killing.
The tragic death of Belen Nesil Coşgün highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women in Turkey. The use of the KADES app, which is meant to protect women in distress, was sadly unable to prevent this devastating outcome. As the investigation continues, authorities must ensure that justice is served in this case and take steps to address the root causes of gender-based violence in the country.
