YYK Grants License to 12 Organizations for Web TV and Digital Platform Broadcasting
The Supreme Broadcasting Board (YYK) in Turkey has issued license rights to 12 organizations for web TV and digital platform broadcasting. Of these, 11 are web TV broadcasters while one is a digital platform broadcaster. YYK also announced that it has decided to take legal warnings and actions against organizations that do not apply for a license to broadcast on the internet.
According to relevant legal regulations, directors and managers of media service providers found broadcasting without a license can be fined up to 50,000 TL, imprisoned for up to five years, or both for committing a crime. In a written statement, YYK stated that all 12 organizations had submitted their documents in full and obtained the right to obtain a license. The web TV broadcasters with missing documents were given time to complete their documents.
At its meeting held on June 7, the Higher Board of Broadcasting made unanimous decisions on all organizations engaged in web TV and digital platform broadcasting. It was unanimously decided to license web TV of TV+, Personal Development TV, Kıbrıs Postası TV, Haber Kıbrıs WEB TV, Cyprus Objective WEB TV, Fikir WEB TV, Özgür Kıbrıs WEB TV, Havadis WEB TV, Cyprus Net News WEB TV, Gündem Kıbrıs WEB TV, Cyprus Turkish News WEB TV, and Lefke Haber.
In accordance with the Law on the Establishment and Broadcasting of Public and Private Radio and Television, the application for a license to broadcast over the Internet (WEB TV/Radio/IP TV/Radio digital platforms, and the like) passed on April 30th. The Higher Board of Broadcasting unanimously decided to take legal warnings and actions against the organizations that do not possess the required license. The directors and managers of media service providers who broadcast without a license commit a crime as specified in the provisions of this law and may be fined 50,000 TL or imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
YYK highlights that legal action against the media service providers found broadcasting without a license will be taken in accordance with the law. The decision made by YYK is a step towards ensuring that the broadcast media follows legal regulations in Turkey.
