
10th Azerbaijan-China Intergovernmental Commission held in Baku

The 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and China took place in Baku, where significant agreements were reached.
Chaired by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Ling Ji, the meeting highlighted the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and China saw a notable increase of 21% in 2023, amounting to $3.7 billion. The upward trend continued in the first three months of 2025 with a growth rate of 37%.
Ling Ji expressed China’s commitment to expanding imports of Azerbaijani goods, particularly pomegranates, wine, nuts, and poultry. Additionally, China voiced its support for Azerbaijan’s desire to join the WTO.
The parties also discussed the upcoming launch of BYD electric bus production in Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of collaboration in green energy, high technology, and logistics. Transit traffic between the two countries surged by 86% in 2024.
A significant focus was placed on the involvement of Chinese companies in the reconstruction efforts of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories. Notably, 130,000 mulberry seedlings have already been delivered for projects in the city of Khojaly.
In a concluding note, the meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol and a memorandum establishing a Working Group on Investment Cooperation between Azerbaijan and China. These agreements signify a strengthening partnership between the two nations and a promising path towards mutual economic growth and development.
