Nigerian Army Targets Boko Haram with Counterinsurgency Operations
Counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama has reported that the Nigerian army has conducted operations against Boko Haram in the Timbuktu region and Sambisa forest in Borno state. According to his statement, 11 terrorists were killed and 25 terrorist camps were destroyed during the operations.
Boko Haram, which has been present in Nigeria since the early 2000s, has been responsible for the deaths of more than 20,000 people in mass acts of violence since 2009. The organization has also carried out attacks in Nigeria’s bordering countries of Cameroon, Chad, and Niger since 2015.
The Nigerian army has been working to combat the threat of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region, where the terrorist group has been active.
