The UK and US Respond to Houthi Attacks in Yemen
In response to ongoing attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, the UK and US, with support from 5 other countries, have targeted 8 points under the control of the Houthi rebels in Yemen. According to a statement from the British Prime Minister’s Office Number 10, the attacks were carried out in self-defense and in accordance with the United Nations charter.
The aim of these attacks is to reduce the Houthi group’s capacity to disrupt sailors and maritime trade in the Red Sea. The statement highlighted that the Houthi rebels have attacked more than 30 commercial ships in the Red Sea since mid-November. The UK and US have called for an end to these attacks and emphasized that those supplying weapons to the Houthis are violating international law.
In a joint statement, the USA and the UK, along with Albania, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Guinea-Bissau, Hungary, Italy, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, South Korea, and Romania, have condemned the Houthi attacks and have taken action to address the situation. The international community is standing together to protect maritime trade and the safety of sailors in the region.
