27th Annual Menteş Zorba Memorial Run Held in Yeşilköy
The 27th Traditional Martyr Menteş Zorba Memorial Run took place in Yeşilköy. Organized by Yeşilköy Şehit Menteş Zorba Primary School, the commemorative run saw the participation of students from Iskele Region Primary School.
Before the race, Atatürk bust was adorned with wreaths, a minute of silence was observed for the martyrs, and the National Anthem was sung. The ceremony was attended by various officials including Erenköy-Karpaz Mayor Hamit Bakırcı, Iskele Civil Defense Directorate officials, Zorba family, Ziyamet Police Station officials, Erenköy High School Principal and teachers, regional primary school principals and assistants, parents, and students.
The ceremony included speeches by Yeşilköy Martyr Menteş Zorba Primary School’s responsible teacher Remziye Baybora and Mehmet Zorba, who represented the Zorba family. A presentation was made about Martyr Menteş Zorba, and a poem was also read.
The participating schools included Yeşilköy Şehit Menteş Zorba Primary School, Yenierenköy Primary School, Ziyamet Primary School, Dipkarpaz Primary School, Çayırova Primary School, Kumyalı Primary School, Mehmetçik Primary School, Konuklar Primary School, İskele Şehit İlker Karter Primary School, and İskele Suat Günsel Public School.
After the 800-meter junior girls’ and 1000-meter junior boys’ races, cup medals, and certificates were awarded to the winning students and schools. The top performers included Avjin Dağ (Dipkarpaz Primary School), Azra Akdeniz (Ziyamet Primary School), and Damla Sualplar (Mehmetçik Primary School) in the 800 meters junior girls category, and Emir Aydenk (Yenierenköy Primary School), Muhammet Arslan (Ziyamet Primary School), and Fevzi Ali Altıoğlu (Yenierenköy Primary School) in the 1000 meters junior boys category. Team results were also announced.
