4.5 Billion-Year-Old Meteorite Confirmed as Object that Fell Through House Roof
A 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite has pierced through the roof of a house in New Jersey, USA. The object weighed about 1 kg and was identified by scientists from the University of New Jersey. Nate Magee, a professor of physics, confirmed in a statement that the object was a chondrite meteorite, based on visual inspection, density measurements, scanning electron microscope images, and the review and information from retired meteorite expert, Jerry Delaney. Magee says that it is an extremely rare situation to closely examine a meteorite falling from space, adding that this object is in excellent condition and one of the very few similar chondrite falls known to science to be witnessed.
