41 Dead in Myanmar’s Hurricane Mocha
Hurricane Mocha, which recently hit Bangladesh and Myanmar, has claimed the lives of 41 individuals. Reports indicate that the death toll could rise further as more than 100 people remain missing. The worst hit region seems to be Arakan state in Myanmar, where much of the area is flooded and communication lines have been damaged. As a result, power cuts have been experienced and many fishing boats damaged. Authorities are urging people to evacuate low-lying coastal areas and remain vigilant during this period. In Bangladesh, over 700 thousand people have been evacuated, but the exact number of individuals affected in Myanmar is yet to be known. This is not the first time that Myanmar has been hit by such a disaster, with the 2008 Hurricane Nargis claiming the lives of 135 thousand people. Efforts are ongoing to repair communication lines and clean up the affected areas in Myanmar.
